The Bluegrass State. Became a state in 1792, being the first to the west of the Appalachian Mountains. Daniel Boone was most prominent early explorer, pusing through the Cumberland Gap or Wildnerness Road. Sided with the Confederacy but many fought for the North. Location of Fort Knox and Fort Campbell. Home of bluegass music.
